WordPress 2.9 – The Finest Of The Bunch!
Most of you will already be aware of the latest announcement on the release of WordPress 2.9 – as always a major release comes with a bunch of cool new features. Here’s a short video showcasing just a few of the coolest features that come fully loaded with this latest major release.
The coolest new stuff from a user point of view are:
1. Global undo/”trash” feature, which means that if you accidentally delete a post or comment you can bring it back from the grave (i.e., the Trash). This also eliminates those annoying “are you sure” messages we used to have on every delete.
2. Built-in image editor allows you to crop, edit, rotate, flip, and scale your images to show them who’s boss. This is the first wave of our many planned media-handling improvements.
3. Batch plugin update and compatibility checking, which means you can update 10 plugins at once, versus having to do multiple clicks for each one, and we’re using the new compatibility data from the plugins directory to give you a better idea of whether your plugins are compatible with new releases of WordPress. This should take the fear and hassle out of upgrading.
4. Easier video embeds that allow you to just paste a URL on its own line and have it magically turn it into the proper embed code, with Oembed support for YouTube, Daily Motion, Blip.tv, Flickr, Hulu, Viddler, Qik, Revision3, Scribd, Google Video, Photobucket, PollDaddy, and WordPress.tv (and more in the next release).

As always the advise is to backup you current installation, both core files and the database before upgrading. Also remember to deactivate all the plugins to avoid any conflict and to allow for a smooth and trouble free upgrade. Latest release of wordpress 2.9 does have a little bug issues which was corrected in the latest 2.9.1 RC1 release.

Nice video! The enumerated features for this WP are clearly explained in details. Based on these features, WP users can save some of their time because all these features can eliminate the use of other applications that you’ll be needing in creating each post of your site.

Excellent blog you have here. I’m a long time reader, but haven’t commented on this type of blog, I just had to say how much I enjoy the site. Where did you get this WordPress release? I really like it.
Yes there were some glitches with the WP2.9 release and the guys at WordPress.org were quickly informed and got to work on a resolution.
I tested the RC WP2.9.1 soon after its release and found it had resolved many of the small issues and everything worked perfectly. The new version 2.9.1 has now been officialy relesed for all to use – so an imediate upgrade is recommended.
