WordPress V3.0 coming soon near your blog – be prepared for something(s) special!
The guys over at WordPress have been hard at work preparing the all cool all new version of WordPress – WordPress V3.0 is due for release any time soon!
So what can you expect with this new version?
I have tested and installed WordPress 3.0 (Not yet available for public use) on one of my new sites and it was a breeze
and with this new version comes the first major change – The installation welcome screen and the ability to pick a name for the admin and set your own password with a strength meter.
Bellow is a screenshot for your reference: (apologies for the poor quality – click the image to view a better quality.)
Next comes the success screen – not so new but you can see the subtle change with the above abilities bring. Here’s screenshot:
Now comes the cool stuff
– WordPress 3.0 comes with a brand new Page menu screen where you can set and arrange all of your blog pages
And it doesn’t stop there! Since WordPress comes with a brand new default theme called twentyten, you now have the ability to upload and set your chosen header -
the ability to upload and set your own background images -
and end up with a cool looking new default theme -
And that’s just for starters. Other cool features include the merge of the theme manager and installation into one single tabbed screen. The ability to bulk upgrade multiple plugins from within the plugin management screen. The post/page writing/edit has an addition and ability to add and set thumbnails for the given post/page.
Not to mention a little beauty of addition to the new theme – footer widgets! Not 1, not 2 but 4 useful footer widget areas to get your creative juices flowing
Other Notable changes!
The wp-config.ph now has 8 Authentication Unique Keys instead of 4 as introduced in v2.6 through to v2.9.2
Here’s they look now:
define(‘AUTH_KEY’, ‘put your unique phrase here’);
define(‘SECURE_AUTH_KEY’, ‘put your unique phrase here’);
define(‘LOGGED_IN_KEY’, ‘put your unique phrase here’);
define(‘NONCE_KEY’, ‘put your unique phrase here’);
define(‘AUTH_SALT’, ‘put your unique phrase here’);
define(‘SECURE_AUTH_SALT’, ‘put your unique phrase here’);
define(‘LOGGED_IN_SALT’, ‘put your unique phrase here’);
define(‘NONCE_SALT’, ‘put your unique phrase here’);
The key request URL has changed too….to: https://api.wordpress.org/secret-key/1.1/salt/ – basically it has just been spiced up with a little pinch of salt
Core files have an addition of 3 new files – these are a result of the merging of wordpress and wordpress mu codebases.
1) wp-activate.php – This is the account activation process used by wordpress mu….any use for wordpress single user? Lets wait and see am sure there’s something interesting lurking in the pipelines for future releases.
2) wp-ajax.php – This is a new Ajax execution action script which can be used in the theme or plug to make an ajaxurl variable available for use in javascripts. The ajaxurl variable will point to this file’s absolute URL.
3) wp-signup.php – this is a wpmu site sign up form used to sign up for a new blog! It will be interesting to see what use this has for a single wp blog…..! Seems like the guys at WordPress still have a few tricks up their sleeves waiting to be unleashed in future versions – at least I hope so!
And here how it all looks on my new site – WordPress Marketing Fusion

Looks great stuffs had been added on the V3.0. It’ll make a lot easier to manage your blog. Will be looking forward for its release.
This is really looking great. Hope 3.0 becomes stable soon so the rest of the world is able to use these new cool features. I especialy like the new menu features….
Looks like we dont have long to wait for the release of V3.0 – currently the beta version is out for testing and the guys at wordpress are polishing up ready for release.

Cool _ I was wondering when the new version was going to be released. (Although just to point out.. that there is a way to update all of the plugins in one go in the core of 2.9.2 already.)
Yes Alyssa you are right – but with 2.9.2 you have to go through Tools>>Upgrade where else with 3.0 the facility has been moved to appear under plugins. Atleast that’s how it is in the developer’s version – hope it stays the same in the final release for convenience sake
There are a lot of updates that are being posted in the internet when it comes to wordpress. It is quite puzzling but for me they are roughly the same.
It’s good to know that word press continues to update its system for more convenience. That’s the reason why I love it. Surely, more and more writer will patronize word press.
