The Anatomy Of A Pillar Article – How To Write A Great Article

Posted by admin under Blogging tips, Traffic Generation

I previously published an article by Yaro Starak about “10 Blog Traffic Generating Tips“, where he touched on pillar articles, briefly explaining what they are and how they are used. I have decided to publish a follow up article on how pillar articles are structured.

Formulating a Pillar Article

  • Article Topic – Keeping with the theme of your blog, chose a subject you write about on a regular basis and is/or you consider it to be pivotal topic to your blog’s content.  Keep in mind that it has to be  something your readers and the general surfer would find useful.
  • Generating Ideas – Brainstorming is a good way to think up about your topic and come up with a few ideas, about 10 different ideas for articles within the topic would be ideal.  Make a note of your ideas for later when you come to put the article together. Making sure that the ideas have that all important depth yet do not need a whole load of write up to explain them.
  • Referencing – Review your current content to see which posts references your ideas. This will help you remember what you have learned about the topic and find useful content you can link to within your article as a point of reference.
  • Research – This one is one of the most critical aspect of your article formulation. By researching you will learn what is being written about your chosen topic and will help you learn a little bit more of the topic. Be sure to take notes of what is already available paying particular attention to things that have been missed out so you can include them in your article.
  • Planning – Create an outline of your article making sure to plot out your main points going as far as possible into sub-points. This will dramatically increase the flow of your article and make it look more professional, helping you write a more coherent and logical articles with real arguments.
  • Putting it all together – With all the findings from your brainstorming, research and planning you should now be able to start filling in the major points and sub topics of your article. As you write you will soon start to see your article taking shape and looking great.
  • Finalising – Proofread your article to make sure it make sense and explains the topic you are writing about. You are almost done, but before you publish your article at this point its a good ideas to run a final check. Yes you got it, its a second helping of proofreading this time making sure of correct spellings.

A pat on the back :) you have just completed your pillar article and its time to unleash it to the world to marvel at. If you follow these simple yet effective pillar article formulation methods, you are sure to have done a great job of it!
