Online Selling – A Simple Outline For The Newbies

With the economy showing no signs of improving and as the credit crunch bites even harder, more and more people are looking to the Internet and more specifically the online business arena as a means of escape. Every day hundreds of new entrepreneurs from allover the globe are springing up to start an online business to supplement their income. But as always, many of these newbies will fail!

The problem is once again the misconception that online marketing is an easy way to make money without putting in the effort. Then there is the lack of knowledge of how Internet marketing really works, many of the newbies are under the impression that by simply throwing together a site promoting a product by raising awareness they will make money. When the true reality is, in order to make money online one has to be Selling the product over and over again. And selling a product time and time again requires work and dedication to the business as whole.

To operate a business effectively, online or offline for that matter there are a few fundamental procedures that need to be established and followed with discipline. I can tell you for a fact that the vast majority of the top business men and women (Online or offline) did not get where they are today without these fundamentals. As a newbie in a quest to establish yourself you need to have discipline and the will power to avoid the hyped up, over sold and to be frank some of the BS that is flying around the net today – Information overload has been the biggest down fall of many a new entrepreneurs. And by BS I mean such claims as “Make money without a website”, “Make money working just 2 hours”, and the classic, “Make money on autopilot”

Now don’t get me wrong here, yes you can make money with such methods, but not as a newbie!

Now the question remains as to how do you make money online as a newbie?

Simple! Duplicate what established marketers are doing – copy their formulas, blueprints, business model – refine it, add to it, tweak it, split test it until it works for you. Here are a few hints and tips to help you on your way to establishing a viable online business that will bring you that ultimate goal – “Success”.

As fundamentals go, there are four major ones that need serious work:

  1. Niche market: You need to establish a market for which your business will target and with it a product that will be of value to that market. After all the aim here is to sell a product and make money right.
  2. Operational base: You will need to establish a base where to operate your business from. For online marketing this will be your website and/or a blog.
  3. Traffic: You are going to need people to see your shop and the product(s) you have for sale, so it is very important to decide how you are going to drive traffic to your site and offer. This has to be the sticking point for most newbies online today and you can either go with the paid traffic route if the finances permit or you can invest extra hours into your business to build organic traffic via the SEO route.
  4. Conversion: yet another sticking point. Its all well and good having a target market, a product and a website with traffic to it – but all this pointless if you are not converting that traffic into members of your list and even more important busying customers.

This is just a brief outline of the 4 fundamentals and there are umpteenth blueprints in the form of e-books that you can obtain online and learn from. But you must remember and this is very important in order to avoid becoming a statistic of the failed newbies – avoid information overload. Find one or two at most blueprints and follow the instructions to the end by taking action on what you learn from them.

The Internet marketing stage is like that of a fashion show – so many gorgeous models all adorn in the most tantalising sexy outfit, coming at one after the other. Before you know you have lost all sense of direction on which model to look at let alone the fine details of the outfit for which the show is being staged for. Don’t be deluded by the pretty looking e-cover and the hyped up sales letter. Evaluate each product by your requirements and if it meets them, then short list it and continue shopping for more. You are not shopping for quantity here though, you are shopping for quality so select only one or two blueprints from the short list.

All in all as a newbie you should only have the need to buy between 5 to 10 products at a max in order to help you establish an online business and set you forth to becoming the next online entrepreneur. This is a definitive quantity but my humble opinion :) .

To your online success,
