How To Fine Tune Your Blog To Maximize Adsense Earnings
Posted by Zulfikar under Income generation tips
One of the best form of monetization for many bloggers is the use of Google AdSense. Placed in the right strategical places these ads can yield quiet a handsome return for a well read blog. So lets have a delve into how to fine tune your blog to maximize AdSense revenue.
We need to make only 3 changes to get most of AdSense on your blog
- Replace default search with customized google search
- Put AdSense inside posts
- Put text link ad on a sidebar in-between all other links
Replacing search
- Login via FTP to your server, go to templates folder (wp-content/themes/yourtheme) and download search.php file. Open it in notepad and delete everything.
- Go to your google AdSense and get a code for search form
- Paste the code into notepad and save it
- Upload the file back to your server
From now on, search results from your blog will contain ads from google. These ads will make you money.
Putting AdSense inside posts
- Download this free plugin: AdSense Now from http://www.thulasidas.com/ and install it on your blog
- Go to google AdSense and get a code for square banner
- Go to plugin settings page and insert your banner code
This plugin will show your google ads inside first 3 posts on your blog and at the top of individual post page. You can change number of ads to show and position inside plugin’s settings area.
Text links in sidebar
- Go to google AdSense and get a code for text links. Try to match your site theme here. Google links must look like your normal sidebar links
- Login via FTP to your server, go to templates folder (wp-content/themes/yourtheme) and download sidebar.php file.
- Open it in notepad
- Find this section:
<h2>Archives</h2>
<ul>
<?php wp_get_archives(’type=monthly’); ?> - Put your code above this section, so you’ll get something like this:
<script type=”text/javascript”><!–
google_ad_client = “pub-2672859166494051″;
google_ad_slot = “5676568860″;
google_ad_width = 180;
google_ad_height = 90;
//–>
</script>
<script type=”text/javascript”
src=”http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js”>
</script><br />
<h2>Archives</h2>
<ul>
<?php wp_get_archives(’type=monthly’); ?>
</ul> - Upload it back to the server
Now you have 3 ads in first 3 posts, links in sidebar, ads inside individual post pages and customized search with…..ads
Now schedule some articles to appear every 1-2 days and watch your AdSense account.
P.S: Remember that Google only allows 3 AdSense ads per page, so when setting up your plugin take into consideration the ad placing in the sidebar as 1 of the 3 maximum allowed.

Hey, you probably right. But I don’t agree with “Putting AdSense inside posts”. I think this is not a great idea, it will visitors run away.

@clarky – Yes I agree on that and I’ve pointed it out on my previous post AdSense Is A Big Mistake.
But once you have an established blog with a good following of trusting and loyal readers then there is no harm in having AdSense ads in posts/pages.
Google Ad Sense Message Boards Fraud
Google Ad Sense is when a web site owner opens an account with Google to place advertisement on their web site. When a person clicks this advertisement, the web site owner gets an average commission of .45 cents. A web site that gets a lot of traffic, they can easily make $150,000 per month.
There are message boards claiming to be informing the public about scams being done by companies or individuals. These web sites have individuals working for them for the sole purpose of targeting companies or individuals in order to generate traffic to the web site. This method is artificially generating traffic to the web site, this is FRAUD as outlined by Google. The higher the traffic, the higher the percentage of individuals that will click onto the Google advertisements.
Additionally, Individuals post copy right information about a company on these types of web sites; this is against the policy of the Google Ad Sense program.
If you believe that you are being targeted by individuals on a particular web site; simply click the Ads by Google in the bottom right hand corner of the advertisement on the web site. You will be taken to a Google page, click onto: Report a policy violation regarding the site or ads you just saw.
File a report and the Google Fraud Department will investigate.

@66epp2 – Quiet an insight thank you. Ofcourse such practicesshould be avoided at all cost as we all know, when google slaps they slap good.
But its quiet wrong to call a webmaster who does their best to attract traffic to their site as “Fraud” unless the site is primarily made up of AdSense and the sole purpose is to drive traffic for clicks. And you will find that not many bloggers/webmasters do that anyways, but as always its the minorities that spoil the party.
Small remark on the 3 ads per page: you are allowed only 3 adblocks per page, 3 linkblocks, and 2 searchboxes. Plus, adsense takes care of it. If you have code on your page for 6 adblocks, adsense will only show the 3 first ones.
