Is The Dot Com Stigma Costing you?

Do you suffer from the dot com stigma? Are you one of the many who would not buy a domain name if it does not have a dot com at the end of it?

A lot of people suffer from the dot com stigma syndrome (DCSS) – anything other than www.mydomain.com just wont do – infact they feel that a domain by any other extension does not carry weight nor value.

Personally for me any domain name that is keyword rich is a valuable one no matter what the TLD at the end of it is. Here’s food for thought on just one of the TLD most DCSS sufferer would go to great length to avoid. Recently a .INFO domain name was valued at $330,521.70 by the web valuer @ http://www.webvaluer.org/ and the thing is, its not even in English. The domain name in question is http://www.williamlong.info/. (Valuation is at: http://www.webvaluer.org/us/www.williamlong.info)

Did you know that in the current marketplace you can buy a .INFO domain name for less than a $1? – Spend a year or so developing the site and you could stand to make nice little profit on it, maybe not hundreds of thousands but a couple of thousands at least in my estimation.

So if you are one of the DCSS sufferer just take a step back and think for a moment – you a leaving money on the table for others to take. I onw a number of .INFO domain names which I bought for around £1.14, I have no content on them – just a holding page! I recently had them valuated @ http://www.stimator.com and they are now worth between $48 and $75 each :)

So if you are looking to start making money online this is one avenue you can pursue – get a domain name and develop a site or blog on it – I personally prefer a blog since you can quickly build up content and search engines love blogs. One you have a decent amount of content and some traffic flowing to the site, flip it for a decent little profit ;)

This is one project that is truly a rinse and repeat to make a steady income online – the beauty of blogs is that most people don’t know how to set them up correctly or they just dont have the time to do it themselves. Therefore the best and safe option for them is to buy a pre-built blog and build on it. And the true value is in the niche and content within the site not the TLD of a domain name. Ofcours a dot come will give higher returns but you should be aiming to start low and build up.

Would you rather sale 10 items at $25 or 2/3 at $50? I know what I would rather do especially since the mark up is on the low value item in comparison to the high value one. So why not break away from the dot com stigma syndrome and start building a portfolio for yourself then flip them for profit eh! :)
