Mandatory Update WordPress 3.0.2

By now you will have noticed in your dashboard that WordPress 3.0.2 is available for update. This is a security release and is mandatory upgrade for all – so if you have not done so I highly recommend that you go ahead and do it now.

The latest news out of the WordPress camp is that they should be releasing the next version of WordPress around the end of the year. As always this is subject to having all the bugs that can be ironed out being accomplished. I am currently testing the beta version of WordPress 3.1 and it promises to be even better, faster and secure – look out for any updates should there be anything to report.

Unfortunately, this scenario is a reality for all of us who use social networking — it’s not a matter  of IF your Twitter or Facebook account will be hacked, but simply WHEN. I’ve been on the receiving end of messages from my friends whose accounts have been hacked. The message typically compliments me on some body part or requests me to click on a link to view a video of myself. Also, there are usually a number of misspellings in the message.

How Secure Is Your Blog?

Well? And I mean really, how secure is your blog?

Let me tell you, if you are not using the latest version. If you have not upgraded yet, then your blog is indeed insecure and you must upgrade immediately.

If the above statement is true in your case, STOP! reading this right now and go upgrade your blog this very instance. If anything has been holding you back and still does from upgrading, then let me give you something to make you let go of it and go get your blog secured.

How To Change Your Password Via PhpMyAdmin

From time to time the little gremlins hiding deep in the blog box tend to play little tricks and you find yourself unable to login. You then hit the lost password button but they in turn chew up the notification email – Now you are left with no access to your admin area, admin has a new password of which you have no idea what it is.

So what do you do? – 2 things I should think!

  1. is – Paniccccc!!!!! :P   or
  2. follow the simple guide bellow and take back what is yours from those little nasty gremlins :D

WordPress Security – Keeping It Safe.

WordPress.tv recently aired a wordpress security seminar where Brad Williams talks about how to keep your WordPress-powered website secure from hackers and exploits. A must watch!

We all seem to make the common mistakes mentioned herein, but the first and foremost “insecure” issue is caused by wordpress itself. I would like to see this changed so that when setting up the wordpress for the first time together with selecting the Blog Name Title and email, we should be given the option to set the “Admin” user name instead of the default “admin” as issued automatically by the install script. The screen-cast/slide show in the background of the video isn’t that great and you can hardly make out most of the things he is pointing out. So I’ve included them bellow for your benefit – a good point is to refer to them as you watch the video so that you can see exactly what is being talked about.
