Does The Theme You Use For Your Blog Influence Page Views?

Through chopping and changing themes I noticed one thing – on every change of a theme either my page view increased or decreased!

So I have been wondering if the look and feel of your site does influence page view or is there a certain aspect of a theme that does encourage site visitors to view more pages. Then it clicked!

Yes the look and feel brought on by a particular theme does influence pageview, but most importantly its the navigation structure of the theme that does the trick.

Google Caffeine And The New Ranking Factors

By Titus Hoskins (c) 2009

Google Caffeine is the name given to Google’s “Next Generation” search engine, which it will use to rank and index all the pages on the wonderful world wide web. According to all indications, this is not just another one of Google’s infamous Updates, but a major “Overhaul” of its index and algorithm, the complex formula and calculations Google uses to rank all web pages, including yours.

If that doesn’t sound ominous enough, according to Matt Cutts (Google Spokesperson) one database is already showing Google Caffeine, and the full blown version will be released after the holidays. The reasoning behind this, Google doesn’t want to upset webmasters and site owners during the lucrative holiday buying season. In the past, other major Google Updates have come around this time of the year, most notably the “Florida Update” which severely affected many web sites and webmasters.

Commenting On Blogs For Back Links – Revisited With KeywordLuv

On the 17th April I did a post on building backlink by commenting on blogs which I have revisited as well as take a look at what others are saying about the topic.

What I have noticed around the blogosphere is that every one is talking about the importance of using anchor keywords/text for the link. Unfortunately with a standard wordpress installation, comments are anchored on the commenter’s name – Which doesn’t really give much in the way of benefit other than just being a backlink.

10 Steps To Creating A Killer Blog

1.) – Niche oriented domain name – supper keyword – one word.

  • This one is a toughie as you will find that most of the good domain names have been taken. But don’t let that stop you, chose a similar word or opt for a different tld like .net or .info if .com is taken. Avoid geographical tlds like .co.uk, .co.in, .asia, .ca or the likes unless your niche is specifically targeting those marketplaces. And if a one word domain is not available then useĀ  2 to 3 words joined together, i.e mykillerblog.com – avoid my-killer-blog.com if you can.

Duplicate Content Warning!

Duplicate content? What duplicate content? And what warning?

Yes duplicate content, you know the one that is the same as another piece of content? And the warning by the gurus that you will be penalised by the search engines. Remember that? They called it “Duplicate content penalty”!

OK OK enough dramatisation here is what am on about. First my theory followed by facts from experts and then the conclusion, and hopefully you will say “oh that duplicate content penalty?” Its a myth!!!
