10 Steps To Creating A Killer Blog

1.) – Niche oriented domain name – supper keyword – one word.

  • This one is a toughie as you will find that most of the good domain names have been taken. But don’t let that stop you, chose a similar word or opt for a different tld like .net or .info if .com is taken. Avoid geographical tlds like .co.uk, .co.in, .asia, .ca or the likes unless your niche is specifically targeting those marketplaces. And if a one word domain is not available then useĀ  2 to 3 words joined together, i.e mykillerblog.com – avoid my-killer-blog.com if you can.

2.) – Niche oriented graphics for header – tagged and optimised for google image search.

  • A killer domain name linked to a killer image has to be the best combo to get a massive targeted free traffic from the search engines. But don’t limit this to just the header, use it on any image you insert in posts and pages to. The mistake most bloggers make is insert a code of an image from another site and that’s it – guess what? when that image gets indexed by the search engines, all the traffic from it goes to the target site/blog. Get into the habit of acquiring the image and tagging it to your site in the <img src=> section and watch your traffic stats on it ;)

3.) – Niche oriented content – on topic and of value to readers.

  • Once you choose a niche, stick to it and only write about that niche in your posts. Don’t be tempted to write about unrelated issues around you in your “niche blog”. Write anything and everything about your niche, positive, negative, criticise and what ever you fancy but stay on topic.

4.) – Avoid keyword stuffing of your articles – 2 to 3 keywords per 100 words.

  • This is a biggie and a definitely No No No to keyword stuffing. For one google does not like it and as a consequences your site/blog will suffer in the long run. Secondly as much as important is the fact it makes bad reading for your readers – its off-putting when you have the same word more than 3 times in one sentence. Its ok to have 2-3 keywords in a paragraph of say 50-100 words, but in every sentence? that’s an over-kill. Trust me, don’t do it!

5.) – Be consistent with your posts – not necessarily quantity but quality and topical.

  • Being consistent with your blog is a must, its good for you, your blog, the search engines and most importantly – your readers. They expect quality and value presented in the same tone at all times. Not sticking to the same tone and style of writing gives an impression that the content is not original as well as too many chefs in the kitchen. If you do have more than one author then make it know to your readers.

6.) – Involve your readers – engage them in a conversation – each comment is a new content ;)

  • One of the beauty of having a blog is the ability to interact with your readers. Comments build a rapor, relationship and as well as more content for your blog. Encourage your readers to comment, offer their advise or simply rate your blog. Always respond to comments that call for a response – again, all this goes towards creating more content on your blog. Some comments call for more than just a sentence to reply, grab the opportunity to turn your reply into a new post referencing back to theĀ  original post and comment ;)

7.) – Give Incentive – as well as quality and value of content add an incentive to keep readers coming back.

  • Your readers come back time and time again for 2 simple reasons. Quality of content and the value within the content. But don’t just stop there, add more value by giving away good quality and valuable goodies. Notice my themes give away where I ask for nothing back in return, why? Because I know that my readers will come back again for more good content and in the hope of finding me in another giving mood :) – My most commented post? Is the themes give away. So don’t be afraid to give for nothing, readership retention is more valuable than a quick 10 bucks!

8.) – Don’t be boring – stimulate the minds of your readers.

  • How? Choose a niche you are passionate about, something you can talk about forever. Remember its not the knowledge that matters but its the passion. If you love something so passionately you will be forever learning about and thus increasing your knowledge for it. But knowledge without passion? You are going nowhere fast. *Sidebar note* Notice a good bad example of keyword stuffing in the above paragraph! :P Lol its ok as long as it makes sense, but not good if its the same pattern throughout the article.

9.) – Be controversial – don’t be afraid to take a different stance on a topic.

  • Create some controversy, be outspoken and criticise all you like, but be constructive with emphasis on adding value to the topic – don’t do it just for the sake of it.. And the remember the rule, if you have something good and constructive to add then say it, other wise hold your peace.

10.) – Keep going and going and going – am sure you get the drift :)

  • Success is never easy and neither should it be taken for granted. It will take time and once attained it has to be fueled all the while to keep up the momentum. So now that you have a killer blog on the map, it is upto you to keep it there by working at it constantly. Remember you are not alone for the coveted top place of “The Killer Blog Owner”, others are hot on your heels and ready to knock you off the perch should you become laxed and lazy.

This is not an exclusive list nor does it replace any other like it, it is meant as an addition to any other steps that a re required to achieve the goals set. It is not “The blueprint” but to compliment it if one does indeed exists.

On a final note.
